Traditional Cretan food nearby
The villages above the town, Kritsa in particular, are where the Lasithi cooking sits: goat with wild greens, snails, hand-rolled pies and local olive oil from the Mirabello slopes. A short drive out of town usually buys both better value and a more traditional table.
Romantic dining and sea views
The lake at night — lit water, boats, cliffs on one side — is the town's romantic setting, and the harbour walk toward Kitroplateia gives open Mirabello Gulf views at sunset. Reserve for the front row in high season; those tables are the first to go.

Kitroplateia and the harbour promenade suit families best — children can wander safely along the waterfront, and portions are large enough to share. The pace is unhurried, and nobody expects small children to eat early.

The season here runs roughly April to October, with a real winter lull. Evenings are the main event; lunch tends to be a beachside salad and fried fish. July and August fill the lakeside tables from 20:30 onward.
