About Tirta Empul Temple
Tirta Empul, founded around 962 AD, is a water temple built around a natural spring at Tampaksiring, north-east of Ubud. Balinese Hindus perform melukat, a purification ritual, in the bathing pools fed by the spring. Visitors must wear a sarong, and those entering the water follow the ritual order of the spouts.
