Commission-Free Reservations Explained: What It Means for Your Restaurant

A 10–30% commission on every cover sounds abstract until you translate it into plates. If your average spend is €45 and a platform takes 20%, you are giving away €9 per guest before rent, staff and food costs.

For a 40-cover room turning twice on a Saturday, that can be €720 in one night. Over a season, it is tens of thousands of euros.

Commission-free means the reservation platform does not take a percentage of the bill or a per-cover fee. The restaurant keeps the full revenue from every guest.

It does not always mean completely free — some commission-free tools still charge monthly subscriptions or setup fees. True zero-cost means no subscription, no setup and no per-cover charge.

Margins are tighter, labour and ingredient costs are up, and diners are more price-sensitive. Restaurants cannot afford to give away a slice of every cheque to a middleman.

Direct, commission-free reservations also give you ownership of the guest relationship. You collect the email, the preferences and the permission to market to them again.
