About Spinalonga
Spinalonga (Kalydon) is a small island at the entrance of the Elounda bay, fortified by the Venetians in 1579. From 1903 to 1957 it served as a leper colony. It is reached by boat from Elounda, Plaka or Agios Nikolaos and is managed as an archaeological site.
