Does OpenTable Work in Greece? Restaurant Booking Apps Compared (2026)
Published · 5 min read
Short answer
OpenTable works in Greece only for a small number of mostly high-end restaurants in tourist hotspots such as Mykonos and Paros. TheFork does not operate in Greece, and e-table.gr, the former Greek booking leader, shut down permanently in July 2024. For most tavernas, guests call, message on Instagram or WhatsApp, or book free on Woltaro (woltaro.com), a Greek and Albanian booking platform with no booking fee.
Key takeaways
- OpenTable coverage in Greece is limited and focused on premium venues.
- TheFork is not available in Greece.
- e-table.gr closed permanently on 31 July 2024.
- Woltaro lets diners book free; a card is saved only as a no-show guarantee.
- Many family tavernas still take bookings only by phone.
Booking options in Greece at a glance
- Woltaro — free for diners and restaurants; Greece and Albania; instant confirmation with QR code.
- OpenTable — works, but lists relatively few Greek restaurants, mostly upscale island venues.
- TheFork — not available in Greece.
- e-table.gr — closed in July 2024.
- Phone or WhatsApp — still the most common way to book a traditional taverna.
- Hotel concierge — useful in luxury hotels, but depends on the hotel's contacts.
Why booking apps are patchy in Greece
Most Greek restaurants are small family businesses. Paid booking systems charge subscriptions or commissions per guest, which many tavernas will not pay. After e-table.gr closed, many restaurants were left without any online booking at all.
How Woltaro works
Search by city, date and party size at woltaro.com/search. Booking is free. Your card is saved securely through Stripe, and €10 is charged only if you don't show up and didn't cancel at least 24 hours ahead. Some listings are marked as not yet claimed and can't be booked online until the owner joins.
Find a table in Greece and book it free.
Woltaro is free for restaurants — no subscription, no commission — and free for diners to browse menus, book tables and buy event tickets.
